Dr. Venu Govindaraju directs the National AI Institute for Exceptional Education at the University at Buffalo, a prestigious $20 million initiative funded by the National Science Foundation and the Institute of Educational Sciences. Dr. Govindaraju is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), International Association of Pattern Recognition (IAPR), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and National Academy of Inventors.

Design of Large Language Models - online course
November 2024 - Febrauary 2025
A one-semester online course on 'Design of Large Language Models' offered at Amrita Institute of Advanced Research recently concluded. The course was taught by AIAR Fellow Dr. Ramesh Subrahmanyam to graduate students and researchers in the United States, India and Israel. The course delved into the design and construction of contemporary Large Language Models (LLMs). Course participants built and trained LLMs and read papers covering several directions in current research. The course helped participants gain a deep understanding of LLM architectures, design choices in training and inference, efficacy of training methodologies and areas of current research including alignment and hallucination.

Symposium on Emerging Technologies for Social Good
August 9-10, 2024
Amrita Institute of Advanced Research (AIAR) marked its inauguration with a symposium on “Emerging Technologies for Social Good”, held at its Elburn campus, setting a collaborative tone for the future of AI and other transformative technologies. Dr. Venu Govindaraju, Vice President of Research, University at Buffalo, was the distinguished invited speaker at the event.

Chancelor Amma launches AIAR

As yet another expression of Her boundless compassion, Chancellor of Amrita University, Mata Amritanandamayi (Amma) launched AIAR at Elburn, IL amidst a large gathering on August 9, 2024. AIAR is the first research institute being started by Amma in the United States. In line with Amma's vision, the institute aims to explore the applications of AI and Data Science for social good.

Civil 20 Symposium on Compassion

Nambiar, Principal Coordinator of C20 India; Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, C20 Troika, Representative to Amma and Chair of C20, Swami Dayamritananda Puri, Executive Director of MA Centers North America and Sri Ramu Damodaran, First Chief, United Nations Academic Impact.
